Nick Scali Malaga

Nick Scali out grew their exisitng 4,500m2 facility at Malaga and were in need of a new distribution centre to cater for ongoing growth. The Glask team met with the developer and Nick Scali and considered their requirements carefully and post meeting Glask supplied a reverse D&C brief which met their specific requirements.

The developed site area was around 27,000m2, the majority of the internal ring roads and pavement / hardstand is 40mm asphalt. The building consists of approximately 8,000m2 of warehouse footprint, 13.5m apex height with a vented ridge, supported by an ESFR sprinkler system and dedicated mattress storage area with a smoke ceiling reservoir. Ground up, the floor slab is suitable for an 8T racking load with an inground wire guidance system for smart forklift operation, there are 12 loading docks, (4) recessed docks and 200LUX of LED lighting. Finishing the facility off is a 200m2 internal office to cater for dispatch and receivals and worker/staff amenities.

The major challenge on this project was its construction on the edge of a Western Power high voltage easement, which meant we were governed by a 4.2m height restriction whilst working within the easement. The entire building structural frame had to be installed from inside the buildings footprint as no cranes were permitted within the easement, this presented several challenges for the steel erection crew along with the roofing contractors. Upon completion, the distribution centre had to run off a hybrid solar/battery/generator system for several months whilst waiting for permanent power.
