Project Outline

To expand Potters House Christian Centre’s auditorium and supporting facilities to accommodate a rapidly growing congregation, while upgrading offices, amenities, and performance infrastructure.

Process

Potters House Christian Centre is undergoing rapid expansion and required additional auditorium space to support their growing congregation and activities. They approached us in 2024 to explore design options for their centre. In response, Glask developed a reverse Design & Construct (D&C) brief tailored to their specific functional and architectural requirements.

Specs

The existing auditorium measured approximately 900m², and the scope of works included extending it by two additional bays to reach a total area of 1,350m². During the design phase, Potters House undertook a review of their existing office and amenity spaces and opted to upgrade these concurrently. This led to the inclusion of additional office areas and expanded amenities to support the increased building footprint. The upgraded auditorium features bespoke lighting systems tailored for performance and presentation needs, a custom-designed HVAC system engineered for optimal climate control and acoustic performance, and a revamped, larger stage area incorporating a built-in baptismal pool. The space is also equipped with state-of-the-art sound and visual display technologies, ensuring high-quality audio-visual experiences for both live events and digital broadcasting.

Resources & Challenges

Undertaking the construction and refurbishment of a live operational centre presents a unique set of logistical and resource challenges. The project required meticulous staging and coordination to ensure that critical areas remained accessible and functional throughout the build. Temporary partitions, adjusted access routes, and phased construction zones were implemented to minimise disruption to day-to-day activities. Resource planning was crucial, with trades scheduled around operational hours and noise-sensitive tasks carefully timed. Safety protocols were heightened to protect staff and visitors, and clear communication channels were maintained to manage expectations. Despite the complexity, the team successfully balanced progress with continuity, ensuring the centre remained active and safe while undergoing significant transformation.
